Fossil fuels have been the main energy source all over the world, playing a key role as the engine of global economy. Within this context, oil and gas exploration appears as a fundamental activity that supports and boosts the ongoing growth of hydrocarbon recourses. Today, renewable energies are gaining ground in the global economy, focused on achieving a more sustainable future. This, however, fails to meet the global energy demand and this transition will be gradual. Therefore, hydrocarbons mostly, natural gas are still crucial to meet the global demand while we advance to a more sustainable energetic future.
The integration of advanced technologies and the development of innovative approaches are the key in searching new hydrocarbon buildups. These tools allow not only to enhance previously explored areas’ potential, but also to unveil new borderlines in areas that remain unexplored.
Objectives:
Technical excellence is a cornerstone in hydrocarbon exploration. High-quality works not only reduces exploratory risks but also allows for an early planning and implementation of efficient and sustainable environmental processes that support energetic transition. Exploratory success also boosts the development of local communities. This is why the Exploration and Petroleum Systems’ Session promotes the presentation, exhibition and debate of works of technical excellence related to the exploration and assessment of both conventional and non-conventional petroleum systems.
